What is Lorem ipsum and why use it?
Lorem ipsum is placeholder text used in design projects for over 500 years. It looks like real Latin but means nothing. That's the point, it doesn't distract from the design. You see the layout, you don't read the content.

How to use it

When this is useful
Situations where you need filler text:
- Web design: the classic use. Drop Lorem ipsum into a blog post, product description, or "About us" section to see how the layout looks with real-feeling text.
- Mockups in Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD: empty fields look boring, real text distracts. Lorem ipsum is the sweet spot.
- Mobile app prototypes: how long will posts in the feed be? Product cards? Notifications?
- Print design: folders, flyers, posters. The client sees the layout before the copywriter delivers final text.
- Presentation demos: show a client a template, drop Lorem ipsum, swap for real content after approval.
- Application testing: fill forms with test text, check character limits, line breaks.

Questions and answers
It's a scrambled fragment of Cicero's "De finibus bonorum et malorum" from 45 BC. Sentences are jumbled, random words inserted. It has no meaning and can't be translated. It started being used in printing in the 15th century, when printers needed text to test fonts, real text distracted viewers.
