How do I convert units - length, weight, temperature, energy, pressure?
A universal converter for twelve categories of units: length, weight, temperature, volume, area, speed, time, file sizes, angles, energy, pressure, and fuel consumption. Over 90 different units total - from millimeters to nautical miles, joules to kilowatt-hours, bars to psi.
Type a value in one unit - see the conversion to every other unit live. Click any result tile and it copies to your clipboard.
Works with metric (centimeters, kilograms), imperial (inches, pounds), specialty (US cup for recipes, nautical miles for navigation), IT (KB vs KiB), energy (J, kWh, BTU), pressure (Pa, bar, psi, mmHg) and automotive (l/100km, MPG) units.
How to use it
- Pick a category at the top - length, weight, temperature, volume, area, speed, time, data, angles, energy, pressure, or fuel.
- Type the source value and pick a unit from the list.
- Every other unit in the category shows live conversion.
- Click any result tile = copies the value to clipboard.
- The tool also handles special rules - temperature isn't a simple multiplication (0°C ≠ 0°F), fuel consumption isn't linear (l/100km ↔ MPG is a reciprocal relation). The calculator does it for you.
When this is useful
The most common uses:
- Cooking with a US recipe - "1 cup of flour" - how many grams? "350°F oven?" (175°C). "1 lb of meat" - 0.45 kg.
- Traveling abroad - "70°F is what in °C?" (21°C). "65 mph in km/h?" (105 km/h). "30 MPG in l/100km?" (7.84 l/100km).
- DIY and home improvement - "5/8 inch in cm?" (1.59 cm). US tools, screws, and lumber come in inches.
- Health and fitness - weight in pounds to kilograms, height in feet to centimeters, blood pressure mmHg to kPa.
- Programming and IT - file sizes: 1 GB = 1000 MB or 1024 MB? Tool shows both at once - decimal (KB, MB, GB) and binary (KiB, MiB, GiB).
- Cars - tires: spec'd at 2.2 bar, gauge in psi (32 psi). US car spec: 30 MPG = 7.84 l/100km. AC: 12,000 BTU = 3.5 kW.
- Electricity & heating bills - kWh ↔ J ↔ BTU. UK gas therm = ~29.3 kWh.
- Science and physics - eV in particle physics, erg in classical mechanics, Pascal in SI, atmospheres in gas laws.
If you only need one category, we have dedicated converters: length, weight, temperature, volume, area, speed, time, angles, file sizes, energy, pressure, and the full fuel cost calculator (with trip cost).
